The brand-new Galaxy S22 Ultra. I’ve been using it for about two weeks now, and I promise you that in this review, I won’t keep calling it the Note 22 Ultra. I swear—I can actually get through this video without making that joke. But truth be told, the best way to understand this phone is to realize that if you strip away the name, what Samsung is actually giving you at this price point is, in essence, a Galaxy Note. However, the phone I am reviewing—and using—is officially called the S22 Ultra. Let’s dive in.
Samsung ‘Ultra’ = The New Note?! The Truth Behind This Massive Shift!
So, within Samsung’s lineup, the word ‘Ultra’ has now come to signify just one thing: the highest expectations, the biggest numbers, the absolute best specs, and, overall, the most comprehensive feature set. The only difference now is that the ‘Ultra’ moniker has effectively absorbed all the characteristics previously associated with the ‘Note’ series. Previously, the ‘Note’ was a distinct edition—a phone defined by its angular design, flat top and bottom edges, and the inclusion of a stylus.

Now, all of those elements have been folded into the ‘Ultra’ line. And the S22 Ultra certainly doesn’t hold back when it comes to delivering on that ‘Ultra’ promise. They’ve equipped it with their highest-tier chipset—which, here in the US, is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1—along with a massive, brand-new cooling system. Technically speaking, the RAM has been slightly reduced compared to last year; the base model features 8 GB of RAM, while all other configurations come with 12 GB—and there is no longer a 16 GB version available.

But honestly? I don’t feel the lack of it at all. I really don’t think anyone actually *needs* 16 GB of RAM in their phone right now. That said, if you want it, you can certainly opt for up to 1 TB of non-expandable storage. And then there’s the display… this display is absolutely stunning. This is a massive 6.8-inch 1440p display.
1750 Nits?! Samsung S22 Ultra Display—Game-Changer or Just a Numbers Trick?
It features a 120Hz AMOLED display with a touch sampling rate of 240Hz. And the most significant new feature is that its maximum brightness has now reached 1750 nits. On one hand, I don’t want to overreact to the 1750 nits—yes, it is certainly a big number—but brightness operates on a logarithmic scale. Therefore, these 1750 nits aren’t significantly brighter than the 1500 nits found on last year’s S21 Ultra.

Samsung S22 Ultra Display: Already Perfect…So Why Did They Upgrade It Again?
All of these phones remain easily readable even in bright sunlight. Nevertheless, I would like to give Samsung credit for continuing to improve upon what was already a best-in-class display. It still retains the same excellent ultrasonic fingerprint reader from last year, positioned right in the center of the screen towards the bottom. Additionally, there is still a hole-punch camera situated at the top center. And now, it features an LTPO2 panel.
