Pixel Phones Feel Like Magic… So Why Is Something Still Missing?
Over the past few years, my relationship with Google Pixel phones has been quite complicated. I’ve always maintained that, at their core, these phones are truly special. They feature incredibly beautiful, animated, user-friendly, and customizable software—software that is consistently capable of performing feats so intelligent that it’s hard to distinguish them from magic.
Brilliant Yet Broken? Pixel 9 Pro’s Biggest Problem Might Change Everything!
Yet, at the same time, these phones also frustrate me immensely; for until now, they have invariably been plagued by some major flaw or issue that distracts you from that magnificent software experience. I’ve encountered problems with build quality, overheating, signal reception, and camera inconsistency; and generally speaking, the phones have tended to be significantly slower than their direct competitors. So, the new Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL (the latter of which I’ve been using most extensively) arrive in a very intriguing position.
Best Pixel Ever… or Finally Good Enough? This One Might Change Everything
They have a great deal to prove right now; but if they manage to pull it off—well, I mean to say that these could very well become my favorite phones of all time. So, that is how the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL are presented. The packaging is quite elegant, though—sadly—it is also rather sparse. You get the phone itself, a cable, and tucked away somewhere inside, a SIM ejector tool. Well, at least that makes getting started a quick process. But here’s the thing: this is, without a doubt, the best-built Pixel phone to date.
Looks Like an iPhone… But Is This Pixel the Ultimate Switch You’ve Been Waiting For?
When you pick it up, it feels almost exactly like an iPhone 15 Pro Max. The dimensions are remarkably similar; the edges are similarly flat—albeit with a subtle curvature—and even the weight matches up gram for gram. I recall reading a post suggesting that the majority of people who purchase a Pixel are actually former iPhone users, rather than those switching over from Samsung. Therefore, if this resemblance wasn’t intentional—specifically to further entice those Apple fans who are still undecided about whether or not to get a Pixel—I would be very surprised.

Well, I say this as a compliment to the Pixel—its edges offer a much better grip compared to the previous model. It truly looks and feels fantastic, particularly thanks to its slim and perfectly uniform screen bezels. Furthermore, this is easily Google’s most robustly built phone to date; it doesn’t flex in the slightest. And in case you haven’t seen it yet, I’d mention that it passed JerryRig’s durability test with flying colors. Over the past few years, I had begun to feel that the Pixel, too, would end up becoming just another one of those Google projects that gets unceremoniously shelved midway through—you know, that same old story where a tech product fails to meet expectations, consequently doesn’t sell well, and subsequently generates meager revenue.
