OnePlus 7T: Same Phone Again…Or a Hidden Upgrade You Didn’t Notice?!
Back in May, OnePlus launched the 7 Pro, which introduced a brand-new look for the brand. Then, a few months later, OnePlus announced the new 7T and 7T Pro models. Considering the timing of the launch, the 7 and 7 Pro remain quite capable devices even today. So, why did OnePlus launch yet another phone—one so similar to the 7T Pro? Let’s find out. I’m Ricky from GSM Arena, and this is our review of the OnePlus 7T. The 7T features a stunning glass-and-metal design. I really loved the contrast between the matte glass and the polished metal frame. Furthermore, this matte finish feels great in my hand, and I feel it actually improves my grip.
OnePlus 7T Design: Flat vs Curved—The Truth No One Talks About!
I just really love soft-touch textures. Alright, this is the OnePlus 7T in Glacier Blue. Compared to the Nebula Blue finish of the 7 Pro, this version features brighter shades of blue. However, I personally prefer the more mysterious look of the 7 Pro. The 7T doesn’t have a pop-up camera; instead, the selfie camera is housed in a notch—something I got used to almost immediately. Its screen isn’t curved, and I actually think I prefer it over the curved display of the 7T Pro. But ultimately, that comes down entirely to personal preference. I will say, however, that using the ‘back gesture’ is slightly easier on a curved screen. But what I didn’t like about phones with curved displays is that the edges of videos or websites can sometimes appear slightly distorted or warped.
OnePlus 7T Camera Design: Ugly Circle or Bold Genius Move?!
Anyway, let’s get back to the design. There’s been quite a bit of discussion surrounding this circular camera ring, and many of you probably aren’t too fond of it. But is it really all that different from a square ring? Well, I can understand why some people might not like it. But, at the end of the day, it really just comes down to aesthetics. OnePlus simply had to find a way to distinguish its new model from the previous one. We are just wondering whether OnePlus will stick with this circular design next year, or if they will introduce a different design—perhaps a triangle or something else entirely? When you place the phone on a table, this camera ring lifts the 7T up slightly.
OnePlus 7T Display: Stunning Colors & Brightness—Best Screen Yet?!
Therefore, if you wish to protect the camera ring from making contact with surfaces, you might want to use a OnePlus case. I really liked the red silicone case, and Sandstone Black remains a classic OnePlus material. Additionally, the transparent (clear) case isn’t bad either, and it does a good job of keeping the phone protected. The corners feel quite nice as well. This is one of the finest displays OnePlus has ever incorporated into a device. On paper, it is the brightest and—in terms of colour accuracy—the most precise of all the OnePlus displays we have tested to date. I appreciated how easy OnePlus made it to understand which colour profile you should select when setting up the 7T for the first time. You can choose between accurate, slightly vibrant, or—if you prefer highly saturated colours—you can opt for that too; hey, we won’t judge you. This display features a 6.55-inch Fluid AMOLED screen with a slightly taller aspect ratio of 20:9.
