After the Vision Pro Hype: These Gadgets Are Surprisingly Better Than You Think!
Alright, now that we’ve come back down to earth after all the commotion surrounding the Vision Pro launch, I’ve had the chance to revisit the things I was testing—work that had been interrupted amidst the chaos of that hectic week. And honestly? There are some truly excellent things among them. I ended up liking the design of the OPPO Find X7 Ultra far more than I expected. The Zenbook Duo—that full-screen, dual-screen laptop from 2024—is simply incredible. And there are a few other things that turned out to be better than anticipated.
OnePlus 12: The $799 Flagship Nobody Noticed…But It Might Be the Best Deal Yet!
But of everything I’ve looked at, the one thing that captured my attention the most is this phone—the OnePlus 12.
It’s possible that this phone flew a bit under the radar amidst all the recent buzz, but it features significant improvements over last year’s model, and it comes with a very reasonable price tag. In fact, let’s start right there—$799. And if you pre-order it, you’ll get the model with 16GB of RAM and 512GB (half a terabyte) of storage as a free upgrade at that very same price. Amazon has already discounted the price significantly, so I’ve included a link to it down below.
OnePlus 12: Same Look Outside…But Inside, It’s a Flagship Killer Again?!
Yes, it is a flagship phone; but when compared to those $1,000, $1,200, or $1,300 “Ultra” phones, it suddenly falls into a category I’d be inclined to call a “flagship killer.” Now, visually speaking, it looks pretty much the same on the outside. They’ve stuck with the design they liked—maintaining and refining that same aesthetic. The same shape, the same circular camera bump that seems to blend seamlessly into the phone’s frame, and those same intricate design details surrounding it. Its back panel still features Gorilla Glass 5, and it comes in new colors and textures; but all in all, if you feel it looks just like last year’s model, you wouldn’t be wrong. Or perhaps you might not feel that way—but don’t let its exterior design fool you.
OnePlus 12 Display: 4500 Nits Brightness…Is This the Brightest Screen Ever?!
Looking at the front, I feel that the screen is the biggest and most noticeable change in this phone compared to last year. It gets significantly brighter—reaching up to 1,600 nits outdoors—and it is now hitting some truly staggering figures: A peak HDR brightness of 4,500 nits. In practice, it is absolutely brilliant, making it incredibly easy to read outdoors or under any lighting conditions. But it can also get incredibly dim.
OnePlus 12: Small Upgrades Everywhere…But Do They Add Up to a Big Win?!
Now, I wasn’t particularly fond of how curved the edges are; as you can see, the brightness drops off at the edges, which also introduces additional reflections. But overall—from corner to corner—this 6.8-inch 1440p LTPO Pro XDR display represents a genuine upgrade over last year’s model. So, the remaining upgrades on this phone are actually a combination of many small tweaks that stack up to create a significant difference compared to last year.
Does that make sense? I mean, that’s just how smartphones are these days. I remember when I reviewed the OnePlus 1.
