OnePlus 9 Pro x Hasselblad: Real Camera Upgrade…Or Just Branding Hype?!

It has been quite some time since OnePlus first arrived on the scene, and it has evolved significantly beyond the “disruptive startup” it once was, maturing into a full-fledged company. The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro are the company’s newest flagship phones. Hasselblad is a Swedish camera manufacturer and serves as OnePlus’s new partner, helping to enhance its camera systems. Although this partnership applies to both the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, in this review, I will be focusing specifically on the 9 Pro. I’m here to give you the full rundown on the OnePlus 9 Pro.

OnePlus 9 Pro Design: Finally Fixed…Or Still Not Perfect?!

The design of the OnePlus 9 Pro isn’t exactly ground breaking; it features glass on both the front and back, a metal frame, a “hole-punch” selfie camera, and slightly curved screen edges. On the OnePlus 9 Pro, the curvature of the screen edges has been slightly reduced, making the phone feel a bit more comfortable to hold compared to the 8 Pro. This has somewhat alleviated the issue of accidental palm touches, though I wouldn’t go so far as to say the problem has been completely resolved.

Give me a concluding title for this entire script that is psychologically clickbait-worthy

The review unit we received came in the “Morning Mist” colour—a nice, refreshing departure from the matte finishes seen on previous OnePlus flagships. Overall, the design doesn’t differ significantly from that of the 8 Pro—whether in terms of button and port placement or the location of the SIM tray. The OnePlus 9 Pro comes with IP68 water resistance as a standard feature. On the front of the device sits an updated 6.7-inch “Fluid Display 2.0” screen, boasting a pixel density of 525 pixels per inch—making for a remarkably sharp display. This new version of the ‘Fluid Display’ now features a smart ‘120Hz mode’ that automatically adjusts the screen’s refresh rate based on usage requirements. Furthermore, the screen quality remains largely consistent with that of the 8 Pro.

OnePlus 9 Pro Display & Sound: Premium Experience…But Is It Truly Next-Level?!

It also supports HDR 10+, ‘Motion Smoothing,’ and ’10-bit colour.’ Thanks to the ‘New Colour Tone’ feature, the display can automatically adjust its colour temperature to match the surrounding ambient lighting.
In our brightness tests, the device achieved a score roughly on par with that of the 8 Pro. In brightly lit environments—with ‘Adaptive Brightness’ enabled—you can expect the screen to reach a peak brightness of approximately 870 nits. This ensures that the screen remains easily readable, even under bright sunlight. An earpiece is positioned at the top of the screen, which also doubles as a loudspeaker. When combined with the bottom-firing speaker, it delivers a powerful and loud audio output—making it excellent for listening to music and watching movies in stereo sound.

OnePlus 9 Pro Software: Clean & Powerful…But Are You Missing Out on More?!

The phone received a very high score in our ‘Loudness Test.’ “Would you… love me for me?” [Music] Now, turning to the software, the OnePlus 9 Pro ships with Oxygen OS 11, based on Android 11. This update was originally introduced with the OnePlus 8T, so we will simply touch upon a few key highlights. OnePlus phones support an ‘Always-On Display’ feature, allowing you to view notifications and, if desired, a live clock display. It includes a clock style called ‘Insight,’ which visually represents—in a graphic format—how frequently you unlock your screen. ‘Zen Mode’ disables all phone features—with the exception of the camera and incoming calls—for a duration of up to two hours.
