The OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro are the company’s newest flagship phones. Hasselblad is a Swedish camera manufacturer and serves as OnePlus’s new partner, helping to enhance its camera systems. Although this partnership applies to both the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, in this review, I will be focusing specifically on the 9 Pro. I’m here to give you the full rundown on the OnePlus 9 Pro.

OnePlus 9 Pro Design: Finally Fixed…Or Still Not Perfect?!

The design of the OnePlus 9 Pro isn’t exactly ground breaking; it features glass on both the front and back, a metal frame, a “hole-punch” selfie camera, and slightly curved screen edges. On the OnePlus 9 Pro, the curvature of the screen edges has been slightly reduced, making the phone feel a bit more comfortable to hold compared to the 8 Pro. This has somewhat alleviated the issue of accidental palm touches, though I wouldn’t go so far as to say the problem has been completely resolved.

The review unit we received came in the “Morning Mist” colour—a nice, refreshing departure from the matte finishes seen on previous OnePlus flagships. Overall, the design doesn’t differ significantly from that of the 8 Pro—whether in terms of button and port placement or the location of the SIM tray. The OnePlus 9 Pro comes with IP68 water resistance as a standard feature. On the front of the device sits an updated 6.7-inch “Fluid Display 2.0” screen, boasting a pixel density of 525 pixels per inch—making for a remarkably sharp display. This new version of the ‘Fluid Display’ now features a smart ‘120Hz mode’ that automatically adjusts the screen’s refresh rate based on usage requirements. Furthermore, the screen quality remains largely consistent with that of the 8 Pro.

In our brightness tests, the device achieved a score roughly on par with that of the 8 Pro. In brightly lit environments—with ‘Adaptive Brightness’ enabled—you can expect the screen to reach a peak brightness of approximately 870 nits. This ensures that the screen remains easily readable, even under bright sunlight. An earpiece is positioned at the top of the screen, which also doubles as a loudspeaker. When combined with the bottom-firing speaker, it delivers a powerful and loud audio output—making it excellent for listening to music and watching movies in stereo sound.
