OnePlus 8 vs 7 Series: What Changed…And Why It’s Not the Same Brand Anymore!”
You may have heard rumors or perhaps seen leaked information; in reality, OnePlus is gradually unveiling details about its new flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 8 Pro. This time, the company is adopting a different strategy, launching two new phones: the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro. These devices are designed to succeed the OnePlus 7T and 7 Pro, respectively. So, I am here to provide you with a comprehensive breakdown of the differences between the 7 series and the 8 series—specifically, the features they have added or removed—and finally, I will discuss the pricing of these new phones. Because, folks, this is not the OnePlus we used to know. It truly isn’t.
OnePlus 8 Pro: Fixed the 7 Pro’s Flaws…But Created New Ones?!
The Razer DeathAdder v2—that gaming icon—has just been upgraded with a lightweight body, a next-generation sensor, and optical switches designed for maximum reliability and speed. Its classic, ergonomic shape truly sets it apart. Discover below why over 10 million other users love the DeathAdder so much. Alright, so I’ll start with the 8 Pro. OnePlus has addressed some of the issues I had with the 7 Pro. The edges of the display are no longer quite as curved, though they aren’t completely flat like those on the 7T, either. Compared to the 7 Pro, the body is slightly taller and slimmer. However, the camera bump is a bit larger and protrudes quite significantly—something I wasn’t particularly fond of.
OnePlus 8 Pro Design: Stunning Upgrade…But Did They Go Too Far?!
The corners are less rounded—a design choice I appreciated—and the back of the device looks absolutely stunning, guys. I have the ‘Ultramarine Blue’ model here. And although it is constructed from Gorilla Glass—just like the 7 Pro—they have added a ‘matte’ texture to it, which truly lends it a soft, smooth, and anti-reflective aesthetic. You can now also choose the 8 Pro in two additional colours: ‘Glacial Green’ and ‘Onyx Black.’ They have retained the ‘Alert Slider’ on the side of the phone—a signature hallmark of OnePlus devices. You might also notice something different regarding the selfie camera.
OnePlus 8 Pro: From Pop-Up to Punch-Hole—Upgrade or Step Back?!
If you recall, the 7 Pro featured a ‘motorized pop-up camera,’ which resulted in a completely notch-less design. However, this time around, they have taken a step back, opting for a design featuring a ‘punch-hole camera cutout’ in the top-left corner of the display. I have no issue with this, as it has become the standard across modern Android smartphones today. Yet, I found it quite interesting to note just how much they boasted about the durability of that ‘motorized camera’ last year—specifically in this very context. The OnePlus 8 you hold in your hand is essentially a slightly smaller version of the 8 Pro.
