OnePlus 7 Pro: ‘Phone of the Year’…But Is It Really That Good?

Hey, what’s up, guys? I’m Anurag, and I’m back with the OnePlus 7 Pro—a device that could arguably be called the ‘Phone of the Year’ so far. And I’m not the only one who thinks so. Typically, whenever a new phone launches, I produce a ‘First Impressions’ video—essentially sharing my initial thoughts on the device right at its release. We then engage in a bit of conversation in the comments section to gauge what aspects people want to see covered in greater depth in the ‘Full Review,’ after which I proceed to publish that comprehensive review. However, that wasn’t quite the case with the OnePlus 7 Pro.

OnePlus 7 Pro: Hidden Details They Didn’t Tell You in the Full Review!

I only had the opportunity to use it for a couple of weeks before I released my full review shortly thereafter. Now, since that review went live, some new details have emerged. There were a few interesting little nuances that were overlooked—details that were neither included in the full review nor subsequently updated—yet I still find them quite intriguing. So, in this video, I’ll be covering all those minor details you might still be unaware of, even after watching the OnePlus 7 Pro review; I’ll also be providing further clarification on certain points that were mentioned in the original review.

OnePlus 7 Pro Water Test: No IP Rating…Still Survives?!

First up, let’s talk about ‘waterproofing.’ Technically speaking, the OnePlus 7 Pro does not hold an official ‘IP certification.’ However, the company has explicitly stated that the phone remains perfectly safe even if it is exposed to water splashes. In fact, Dave CD went so far as to keep the phone submerged in a bowl of water right beside him throughout his entire review video; when he finally pulled the phone out at the end of the video, it was functioning perfectly fine. In reality, officially securing an ‘IP certification’ for a phone entails installing rubber gaskets and seals within the device’s internal components, followed by subjecting it to rigorous testing by an independent agency.

OnePlus 7 Pro: No IP Rating to Save Money—Smart Move or Risky Gamble?!

This entire process involves a significant financial outlay. Therefore, OnePlus decided to meticulously incorporate rubber gaskets and seals into the phone, but opted against commissioning testing from an independent agency. The cost savings realized through this approach would directly benefit customers like us. My assumption is that they likely conducted some internal testing on the phone themselves—which is why they are confident enough to tell users that they can splash water on it or even take it out in the rain. I don’t know exactly how much money this decision has saved customers like us—though I have heard that the savings amount to between $10 and $30 per device.

OnePlus 7 Pro Secrets Revealed: Water-Safe, RAM Options, and What They’re Not Telling You!

That figure strikes me as quite substantial. Ultimately, however, I have no issue with this decision—provided that “third-party testing” conducted by people like Dave continues to demonstrate that the phone remains completely safe, even when exposed to water. And now, for those interested in the phone’s RAM specifications—since the various models of this device come with differing RAM configurations… you can purchase the 7 Pro with either 6 GB, 8 GB, or 12 GB of RAM.

Why Upgrading to 8GB RAM on the OnePlus 7 Pro Could Be the Smartest $30 You Ever Spend!

You can view this specific page within Oxygen OS, which displays my average RAM usage during periods of medium-to-heavy usage. My average RAM consumption hovers around 5 GB; therefore, technically speaking, even the 6 GB RAM variant would be sufficient for my needs. However, I feel that for the sake of playing it safe, I will opt to upgrade to the 8 GB RAM version. OnePlus charges only an additional $30 for this upgrade, so for a total of $699, you gain a little extra headroom.
