OnePlus 6T: Just an Upgrade…Or the Smartest Buy Right Now?
Hey guys, what’s up? I can tell you that for the past few days, my ‘daily driver’ (the phone I use every day) has been the brand-new OnePlus 6T. There was a lot of buzz surrounding this phone. We saw several leaks regarding its specifications and design, and honestly, a lot of people were eagerly awaiting its arrival. The OnePlus 6T is, in the truest sense, an ‘incremental update.’ Most of it remains identical to the OnePlus 6—a device we are already familiar with and one that I personally really loved.
OnePlus 6T: Bigger Display, Smarter Tweaks—But Is It Worth the Upgrade?
You could also think of it as a ‘design refresh’ released a few months later. They took the OnePlus 6—which was already a robust and popular phone—and implemented a few upgrades and tweaks wherever they felt there was room for improvement. They essentially took it up a notch. Alright, that’s the end of the ‘notch’ jokes for this video. So, there are six easily memorable new features on the OnePlus 6T. First up is its new display. It’s larger—a 6.4-inch screen—and remains an ‘Optic AMOLED’ panel with a resolution of 2340×1080. They’ve been utilizing this technology for quite some time now, and it remains excellent.
OnePlus 6T Display Upgrade: Smaller Notch, Bigger Screen—Game Changer or Gimmick?
It’s bright, vibrant, and comes with pre-configured, adjustable ‘color profiles.’ Obviously, I’m a fan of large phones—and phone screens just keep getting bigger—and I still really love it. Additionally, compared to the OnePlus 6, the ‘chin’ (the bottom bezel) on this device is slightly smaller. It’s not a massive reduction, but when you place both phones side-by-side, the difference is clearly visible. So, the display has definitely seen some improvements. And now we come to the second new feature—as you can see at the top, there is a ‘teardrop notch’ (a teardrop-shaped cutout) located here. Whatever OnePlus intended to do with the OnePlus 6 The OnePlus 6 featured a fairly standard notch, and they are including a smaller notch in this 6T as well—the only difference is that it lacks a notification LED.

OnePlus 6T Face Unlock: No Fancy Sensors…Still Lightning Fast?!
So, located at the top are the front-facing camera, the earpiece, and the proximity and ambient light sensors. There are no fancy Face ID dot projectors, depth sensors, or anything of that sort here; just some solid, basic components. They are still able to perform their super-fast facial recognition using just the RGB camera—a method that comes with its own set of pros and cons. The speaker is housed here in a slot right at the very top; in any case, it wasn’t particularly useful before, so shifting that tiny speaker up there doesn’t make much of a difference to us. And for many people like me, this actually constitutes an improvement.
