OnePlus X: $250 Phone That Feels Like a Premium Flagship?!

Hey guys, what’s up? This is the OnePlus X—in my opinion, it is currently the best and truly most affordable smartphone you can buy. And even if you don’t plan on buying this phone, it’s still worth knowing that such a device exists. This is OnePlus’s super-budget $250 smartphone, designed with the primary objective of delivering a fantastic, premium feel in the hand—even at such a low price point. They achieve this by utilizing materials like metal and glass throughout the device—which is truly impressive.

OnePlus X: Premium Glass Design…But Can You Even Hold It?!

Specifically, the flat edges feature a raised metal rail running all the way around; the edges are slightly chamfered; and both the front and back are covered in slightly curved 2.5D glass—somewhat reminiscent of the iPhone 4S or Nexus 4. Consequently, it feels excellent in the hand; it also has a satisfying heft to it. Unlike plastic phones, it doesn’t flex or bend in the slightest. However, glass is undeniably one of the slipperiest materials out there. So, even though it feels incredibly premium without a case, you’ll probably still want to apply at least a ‘skin’ to it. I’ll include a link to just such a skin down below, right next to the ‘Like’ button.

OnePlus X: Premium Design with Hidden Flaws—Still Worth It?

Plus, OnePlus actually includes a clear plastic case with the phone—so, in a way, they acknowledge this fact as well. Oh, and yes—on this black model, fingerprints tend to show up on the glass very quickly. That’s why there is also a white version available, on which those smudges are far less visible. But, setting aside the choice of materials for a moment, this represents some excellent hardware design from OnePlus. The ‘Power’ button and ‘Volume Rocker’ are located on the right side, while the ‘Alert Slider’ sits on the left—and I was genuinely delighted to see it placed there. There is also a decent-sounding speaker located along the bottom edge; Of the two grills located at the bottom, only the left one functions as a speaker.

OnePlus X Display: Budget Price…But This Screen Feels Premium!

Its sound is quite loud, but Yes, the audio quality does degrade slightly at maximum volume. Now, inside, you will find hardware identical to that of the OnePlus One—specifically, a Snapdragon 801, Adreno 330, and 3 GB of RAM; for a budget phone, this is truly excellent. On the front, you get a 5-inch 1080p AMOLED display. I have to say, this is arguably the phone’s standout feature. I have always had a fondness for OLED displays, and this one is no exception. It features inky blacks and incredibly high contrast, delivering vibrant and vivid colors that are truly pleasing to the eye.

OnePlus X Display: Budget Phone…But This Screen Will Surprise You!

The display is also quite bright, which is a definite plus. Typically, one observes a significant drop in display quality when it comes to budget smartphones; however, this display—even if its colour temperature leans slightly toward the ‘cooler’ (bluish) side and it is somewhat smaller than what is found on most phones—remains genuinely superb. Furthermore, to fully leverage the capabilities of this OLED display, OnePlus has implemented a few specific software tweaks.
